IB 8052 Micro Controller with an Interbus-Slave Interface.
The IB8052 is based on the standard 8052,
but is enhanced with the addition of an Inter-
bus Slave interface. This combination offers
easy access to the Interbus network for CPU
based field devices. The IB8052 can be used
in the development of the standard Interbus
device groups; Drivecom, Encom, identifica-
tion systems and man machine interfaces as
well as for intelligent IO.
Applications of up to 64k bytes in size can be
executed from an external memory device
(EPROM, EEPROM etc.). Figure 1 shows the
IB8052's microprocessor core and its periph-
eral IO.
Figure 1: Block Diagram of the IB8052
In addition to the 8052 micro controller the
IB8052 also contains the following interfaces;
Interbus protocol core; a synchronous serial
port (SSP); a 512 byte dual port memory
(DPM); 2 additional 8-bit parallel ports (one of
which is shared between IO, DPM and the
SSP); a watchdog timer; and 1k bytes of in-
ternal RAM.
An on board oscillator is provided to help
generate the required 16MHz clock from a
simple quartz crystal and minimal other com-
ponents. Alternatively a crystal oscillator may
also be used. Compared with a normal 8052
the IB8052 performs 3 to 4 times faster due
to enhanced instruction execution. An inte-
grated DPM interface is provided for dual
processor designs, if this is not required the
synchronous serial port may use the port
pins.
The IB8052 comes in a QFP100 package,
providing an Interbus solution in a small foot-
print.

Product information IB8052
Ideal duet of slave chip and PCP software!
The handling of parameter data has now been made simpler - PCP software for the IB8052.
In order for an Interbus slave de-
vice to support a parameter data
channel, in addition to the normal
process data, PCP must be util-
ized. This channel can be used for
parameterization and program-
ming.
The integration of an Interbus
interface into devices that only
require cyclic process data can
be simply achieved with the IBS
SUPI 3 chip.
PCP software is
available if, or in
addition to process
data, more extensive
parameter data is
required without
prejudicing the de-
terministic process
data. PCP works by
allocating a 16-bit
slot in the process
data for each slave
that requires PCP
data. PCP data is
then multiplexed
through this reserved
slot over multiple bus
cycles.
This hybrid method of
data transfer distin-
guishes Interbus from
its rivals. It offers the
decisive advantage
that 2 different
classes of data can
be transmitted via a
common medium
without affecting each other.
This is why, unlike other bus sys-
tems, the process data update
times are preserved during large
transfers of parameter data.
Until now the only solution for
intelligent IO was to use the
proven SUPI 3 chip, a microproc-
essor and the PCP software. With
the introduction of the new IB8052
slave chip, an alternative is possi-
ble which can save money and
time. The IB8052 presents an
optimal solution for complex
devices requiring PCP com-
munication because the chip is
able to process this channel
independently from any other
processor.
The chip already contains a
suitable environment for PCP;
this enables the use of previ-
ously ported and developed
version of PCP to be
utilized as object
code. The time re-
quired to port PCP
decreases from
about a month to a
week when using the
IB8052. This results
in an overall reduc-
tion in development
times and costs for
the device manufac-
turer.
The ported object
code, IBS PCP
IB8052 SWD, is
licensed by the de-
vice manufacturer
and can be used in
as many applications
as required. The
software will be
available from the
Interbus Support
Center on CD-ROM
shortly. A free test
version is also being
planned.
