RF3158
Ideally suited for 3V quad-band GSM/GPRS and EDGE handset
applications, the compact RF3158 is fully integrated and requires no external routing or
external components. Designers will benefit from a simplified layout and reduced board
space, while also seeing the benefits of integrated power control and automatic V
BATT
tracking technology.
The RF3158 is a high-power, dual-mode PowerStar
power amplifier (PA) with
integrated power control contained in a small 6x6mm square footprint. Manufactured
on an advanced GaAs HBT process technology, this PA solution is designed to operate
both in a saturated mode for GMSK signaling and in a linear mode for 8PSK modulation.
Featuring input and output terminals that are internally matched to 50 ohms, the RF3158
is designed to be the final amplification stage in a dual-mode GSM/EDGE mobile transmit
lineup operating in the 824 MHz to 915 MHz (low) and 1710 MHz to 1910 MHz (high)
bands. The module solution is applicable to EDGE systems requiring a linear PA such as
those using direct I&Q modulation or those using small signal polar modulator tech-
niques. A single input pin allows for analog power control in GPRS mode and two digital
steps when in 8PSK mode.
Automatic V
BATT
Tracking Circuit
The RF3158 incorporates RFMD's latest V
BATT
tracking circuit, which monitors battery
voltage and prevents the power control loop from reaching saturation. The V
BATT
tracking circuit minimizes switching transients especially at low battery voltage
conditions. Along with its market-
leading transient performance,
the RF3158 PA ramping waveform
also meets system performance
under all conditions.
Through its compact size, elimination
of external components, optimized
performance and ease of use, the
RF3158 provides designers the
premier PA solution for GSM/EDGE
applications.
